A wide variety of students succeed in the YEA! program. Students who have a particular passion or interest – from sports and music to fashion and baking have created great enterprises. Other students who excel are those who have an idea for an invention. And finally, a number of the most successful YEA! students had no idea what business they wanted to start, but we’re passionate learning how to accomplish something big.
To be considered for the YEA! program all applicants must fill out the application completely. If your application meets the programs standards you will be asked to come in for an interview. After all interviews are completed, the selection committee will meet and will be notified of your admission status.
We make sure to give the students plenty of time in class to work on their businesses. Depending on what the business is that the student has created will determine the amount of extra work they do outside of the class. Generally, our students spend approximately an hour a week outside of the classroom working on their businesses/nonprofits.
We have many students that participate in school sports. While we take attendance in class each week, we want our students to have the full school experience and work to accommodate schedules.
No, students do not need to have a business idea to enter into the program. In fact, many students that do have a business idea end up changing them after they enroll and do the market research.
Yes! Students are assigned a business mentor that works with them exclusively and there are multiple office hours for students to utilize outside of the classroom.
YEA! students learn how to generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, interact with business professionals as peers, pitch to a panel of potential investors, obtain startup funding and become ready to launch their very own real companies. They will each participate in a CEO Roundtable Event, Investor Panel, and end of year Trade Show. Students learn to develop their favorite hobbies, passions, and great ideas into thriving enterprises through a series of classes, guest lectures and fun field trips while meeting successful entrepreneurs along the way. Students develop self-confidence and self-assurance as they learn that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.
This is a one-year program for students. After students graduate from the YEA! program, we continue to connect, support and promote opportunities for our graduates.
